In 1892, Margaret Marshall Saunders (1861–1947), first learned about Beautiful Joe when she visited her brother and his wife, Louise Moore. Saunders was so touched by Joe's story that she wrote a novel-length, fictionalized, autobiographical version of it, entitled Beautiful Joe.
In total, she wrote 24 books, including a sequel Beautiful Joe’s Paradise – written in 1902. In 1914, she moved to 66 St. George St. in Toronto, and later to 62 Glengowan Rd. Oct 4, 2016 · The Beautiful Joe Heritage Society was very pleased to see this blog about Margaret Marshall Saunders. We particularly liked the postcards. As you are probably aware, she wrote a sequel to “Beautiful Joe” called “Beautiful Joe’s Paradise, the Island of Brotherly Love”.

Aug 19, 2010 · It is a story of a boy who's dog is killed. As he grieves over the body, monkeys in a hot air balloon-type vehicle come for the dog's spirit. The boy refuses to let his dog leave without him, so the monkeys take him along. He goes to a place where all animals who have died go. Beautiful Joe is there along with the animals in his story.
