DeLand is a city in and the county seat of Volusia County, Florida, United States. The city sits approximately 34 miles (55 km) north of the central business district of Orlando, and approximately 23 miles (37 km) west of the central business district of Daytona Beach. It is a part of the Deltona–Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach metropolitan area.

Mar 26, 2024 · Located in Central Florida, roughly 32 miles southwest of Daytona Beach and 34 miles north of Orlando in Volusia County, this city is known as the “Athens of Florida” because its founder envisioned it to be a place of culture and education like Athens, Greece. There are many authentic things to do, from antiquing to touring historical sites.
DeLand, with 30,000 plus residents, is centrally located between the Orlando attractions to the southwest and the Atlantic beaches on the northeast. It is noted as a thriving city distinct in its history as well as what it has to offer visitors.
Downtown DeLand. Several delightful water features grace historic downtown DeLand. Perhaps the most charming is the diminutive fountain gurgling beneath the rotunda dome of the Historic Volusia County Courthouse.
Jan 29, 2020 · Overview. Founded in 1876, DeLand is best known as the home of Florida’s oldest private college, Stetson University, which also boasts Florida’s first law school. Formerly called Persimmon Hollow, DeLand was also the first city in the state to have electricity.
