The California Institute of Technology (branded as Caltech) is a private research university in Pasadena, California. The university is responsible for many modern scientific advances and is among a small group of institutes of technology in the United States that are devoted to the instruction of pure and applied sciences.

Aug 29, 2023 · Caltech was elected to the Association of American Universities (AAU) in 1934 and remains a research university with “very high” research activity, primarily in STEM fields. Research is central to Caltech, and the Institute manages over $400 million in sponsored awards annually.
Caltech undergrads do research. When you come to Caltech, you are treated as a scientist from day one. With over 50 research centers and institutes on campus, including 5 NASA facilities, Techers spend a lot of time in the lab.
At Caltech, you don't have to wait until graduate school to engage in research. As a research-driven institution, we emphasize hands-on learning opportunities for all our students. In fact, over 90% of Caltech undergraduates do student research, and about half get involved in their first year.
