UPDATE 03.29.23: Thanks to Single-Idea-4823 for reminding me that we have a canon answer as to what the two were talking about! This info came out last year. While Gavin was on patrol by the strip, he saw two prostitutes whom he believed were women. He walked up to them as they weren't supposed to be there and the two started running.
A lot of people have a head canon that views him as sympathetic. They feel that he acts that way for a reason (tragic backstory, PTSD, etc), and so he is redeemable in fan fiction and therefore a decent guy.
I disagree—for the most part. Sometimes yes, Gavin is not at all in character, and is basically a conduit for oc's or something. But some stuff about fanon Gavin is so widespread that it can't be called an oc. He's not canon, but he's more than an oc. Usually. It's like Nines' name.

Gavin and RK900 have never actually met in the game. Gavin shows a hatred for androids throughout his appearances in the game, he tends to insult the previous police androidand make nicknames for androids such as "plastic prick," "plastic detective," and "tincan." RK900 is the upgraded version of RK800, who is also called Connor.
Although the pair have never met, that has not stopped people from writing and drawing the two together. Oct 7, 2002 · Gavin is similar in personality to Carter Blake from another Quantic Dream game Heavy Rain. According to Grégorie Diaconu , the associate game director, Gavin's name was Curtis at first, but it was changed.
So although Gavin Reed is a very nasty individual in general terms for everyone, during the events of the game he has only two main problems, Hank and Connor. As we can all gather from his personal canon “bio” (on the game gallery), Hank is a major obstacle to Reed as he is advancing on his career.
