     HTML doesn't have a <bold> tag, instead you would have to use <b>

     . Note however, that using <b> is discouraged in favor of CSS for a while now. You would be better off using CSS to achieve that.

     The <strong>

     tag is a semantic element for strong emphasis which defaults to bold.

     The Markup Way:

     <strong>I'm Bold!</strong> and <b>I'm Bold Too!</b>-

     First your have a syntax error in your HTML code, it should be:

     <p>I want the word BOLD to be BOLD</p>-

     Then, there are two methods can make text display bold without CSS :

     <p>I want the word <strong>BOLD</strong> to be <b>BOLD</b></p>

     I recommend use strong element, because it's more semantic.

     The MaterialDialog.Builder class's content(CharSequence) method should work just fine for making text bold, as long as you pass in some CharSequence that supports bold text. I know you said Html.fromHtml() isn't working, but in my tests it works perfectly. Here's a really simple activity that's a proof of concept:

     You were almost there. You just needed to add the justify-content property.

     Add one line of code to your CSS:

     .inner1 { display: flex; width: 5em; /* text-align: right; REMOVE; not necessary */ justify-content: flex-end; /* NEW */}

     This is working for me. The only confusion for me is that it says that justify-content aligns flex-items. Since when is the content (text) itself considered a flex item? Moreover, is the .inner1 div considered a flex item, and will the entire div be moved around along the axis too? – @mareoraft

     The inline content in a flex container gets wrapped in an anonymous flex item, which is able to inherit properties from the parent. However, anonymous items (like anonymous block and anonymous inline boxes) are unselectable and therefore unstyleable. So if you want to apply styles to the text consider wrapping it in a <span>, <div> or other element.

     The div with class .inner1, as a child of the flex container (.outer), is a flex item. All flex item properties apply. .inner1 also doubles as a (nested) flex container, so all flex container properties apply, as well.
