He doesn’t allow the unnamed “Man” to monologue his way through the movie. He doesn’t amp up the score (at least until the final act). He really lets his set-up work for the middle 40 minutes of the film as our only two characters move toward the inevitable climax. And he saves a few surprises for the final act.

Mar 12, 2017 · Parents need to know that Hush is a 2016 horror movie about a deaf writer living alone in the woods who becomes the target of a crossbow-wielding killer. There are some gruesome murders -- stabbings to the chest and throat of some of the characters, resulting in lots of spurting, gushing, and dripping blood….

Mike Flanagan's HUSH is the perfect example of what you can do with nice performances, a good story and some creative directing. The film certainly has some flaws along the way but for the most part this is an extremely effective thriller that uses creativity over cheap CGI effects or obnoxious loud band noises to try and get scares.
The movie opens with Maddie Young preparing a meal. Close-up shots entice not only our visual senses but our audible senses—her knife slamming down onto the cutting board, the familiar sizzle as she adds food to a frying pan. As the camera pans around, the sounds slowly fade out, and we’re left with nothing but soft white noise.
