We are a Quaker, coeducational, college preparatory day and boarding school for students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States. Our school was founded in 1799 by the Philadelphia Quakers, and we are the oldest continuously operating co-educational boarding school in the country.
Westtown School first welcomed students in May 1799. Members of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) established the all-boarding school so that their children might have a “guarded education,” one based on useful learning in a setting that promoted mindfulness of God’s continuous presence.

They are rooted in the principles of Quakerism, which include the fundamental belief that there is that of God in every person, and in the tenets of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.
