So, the book story where he does precisely that is much more consistent and logical than the show story. Also, the expectation of the writers when finally disclosing that Nivellen is guilty of rape is obviously that the viewers will react exactly as Geralt does, and classify him immediately as evil.

"A Grain of Truth" (Polish: Ziarno prawdy) is a short story written by Andrzej Sapkowski and is the third story in The Last Wish, having been originally published in the now obsolete book, Wiedźmin. This short story describes how Geralt the witcher met a man in a monster's mask, Nivellen.
Grain of Truth and The Witcher short stories were my favorites from Last Wish. You should check out the graphic novel adaptation for Grain of Truth. Came out very recently and they did a good job bringing the words to life. Next year they are releasing The Lesser Evil.
