Feb 18, 2016 · Barely over 200 pages, Up At the Villa is a page turner. It is meticulously constructed and one can see with what ease Maugham navigates among his characters and the unfolding events. It is perfectly legitimate to close it and forget about it, having been entertained for a few hours. That was what I did the first time.
