Newport is a home rule-class city [6] at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking rivers in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 14,150 at the 2020 census. Historically, it was one of four county seats of Campbell County. [7]

Newport is a city on the Ohio River in Kentucky's Northern Ohio River Region or as locals call it, Northern Kentucky. Founded in the 1790s by James Taylor, Jr., Newport is named after British Admiral Christopher Newport, who helped to found the Jamestown colony in 1607.
Newport, city, one of the seats (1796) of Campbell county (the other is Alexandria), Kentucky, U.S. It adjoins Covington (west) and lies opposite Cincinnati, Ohio, on the Ohio River near the mouth of the Licking River. The first settlement (about 1790) was named for Christopher Newport, commander.
History of Newport, Kentucky Establishment in the Late 1700s. Established in 1795 by James Taylor, Newport is named in honor of Admiral Christopher Newport. Admiral Newport had led the first English settlement at Jamestown, which is in Taylor’s native state of Virginia.
