The City of Preston, or simply Preston (/ ˈ p r ɛ s t ən / ⓘ), is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Ribble and has a population of 151,582 (2022). The neighbouring districts are Ribble Valley, South Ribble, Fylde and Wyre.

Preston is located at the lowest bridging point of the River Ribble estuary before it flows into the Irish Sea. Cotton manufacture (begun in 1777) was the city’s main employer for more than 150 years.

- Church of St Walburge. Preston’s Grade I-listed Gothic Revival church went up in the middle of the 19th century, and was built by Joseph Hansom. He also designed the Hansom cab, which revolutionised horse-drawn transport in Victorian times.
