St James Power Station. St James Power Station is a building located in HarbourFront, Singapore. Built in 1926, it was Singapore's first power station, having supplied electricity to the nearby port and the surrounding industries, shipyards and residences. It was previously also the one and only coal-fired power plant in the country.
St James Power Station was set close to the New Harbour for its proximity to the sea and port infrastructure, crucial to its operations. Today, the harbour has transformed dramatically, with its former industrial use replaced by leisure and lifestyle activities over the past two decades.
