Aug 9, 2021 · Another short story fans of the franchise hoped to see in season one was “A Grain of Truth,” which is essentially a twisted retelling of Beauty and the Beast featuring a character named Nivellen, a leader of a gang of cutthroat highwaymen who, during a temple robbery, rapes a young priestess.
The episode was solid, the beauty and the beast parallel came out real quick (my wife even hummed 'Be Our Guest' at the dinner scene)... and it seems to actually play better with what I'm picking up as some themes of 'how far we will go for love' that run through the show as a whole.
While literally stopping to smell the roses, a large beast bursts from the manor in a (failed) attempt to scare Geralt away. The beast’s name is Nivellen, and he has been cursed into this form by a priestess after he was basically peer-pressured into sexually assaulting her many years ago.
