  2. Concentrations Overview. The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures offers a rich and diverse program of literary and cultural studies, including film and music. We offer students the option to pursue a concentration in German Studies, Scandinavian Studies, or a joint concentration in German or Scandinavian and another field.

  5. The Major. Prerequisites for the German concentration are GERMAN 110, 120, 230, 240, or their equivalents. In general, four years of high school German should guarantee proficiency through the 240 level. Students in the German concentration must complete 10 major courses, including courses in advanced German language, culture, and composition.

  6. The following rules apply to these requirements: Four upper-division courses taught in German or a Scandinavian language. Eligible courses in this category include GER 311-313, GER 340-341, GER 360-499, and SWED 405. Four additional upper-division approved courses.
