The first chapter of Luke Short’s 1945 novel Coroner Creek sets up a classic revenge plot admirably. Chris Danning, eighteen months on from the death of his fiancée in a brutal massacre by Indians, has learned that a white man planned and carried it out.
Chris Danning's (Scott) fiancee commits suicide after being held hostage during an Indian attack on her stagecoach and a payroll robbery. Danning sets out to trace the loot and exact his revenge. A superior production, notable for being one of the first westerns with an adult theme.
