      • S. J. Perelman, the humorist and author whose penchant for wordplay, spoofery and zaniness, indulged in essays, books, plays and movies, helped to shape American humor, died yesterday morning in his apartment at the Gramercy Park Hotel. He was 75 years old. Thecause of his death was not disclosed, but friends said he had died of natural causes.
