Damien Chazelle (born January 19, 1985, Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.) is an American director and screenwriter who won numerous awards for his first two major films, Whiplash (2014) and La La Land (2016). Chazelle was the son of university professors, and as a child he had an interest in both filmmaking and music.
