A more sustainable island investment to protect the common environmental resources of the climate crisis and biodiversity Shared Island Fund projects in focus
• Supporting Local Authorities to step up climate action in partnership with communities across the island, including on nature recovery networks; farming for nature; just transition; improving land use and water quality; peatland restoration; renewable energy solutions; and flood forecasting.
• Helping to reach climate and energy targets on the island of Ireland; supporting collaborative community involvement on climate action on a shared island basis.
• To deliver peatland restoration, build capacity for long-term peatland management, undertake research and monitoring, and address socio-cultural concerns.
• Reduction of carbon emissions through restoration of blanket bogs; capacity building; knowledge exchange.
• Facilitating increased EV use across the island; EV charging points at destination locations; support for aligned standards and use of interoperable technologies for EV charging on the island of Ireland.
• Joint virtual centres to strengthen the research and innovation base across Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
• Building strategic partnerships to support a competiive economy and addressing societal and environmental challenges.
• Connecting the Causeway Coast and Wild Atlantic Way so visitors stay longer and spend more, bringing greater economic benefit to the region.
