Jan 16, 2023 · Málaga is known and famous for many things and contains some of what makes Spain such a wonderful country — beautiful scenery, stunning architecture, warm people, and delicious food. Let us know what else makes Málaga unique among cities in the comments below.
- Rooftop of Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga. The Cathedral of Malaga is one of the most prominent buildings in the city and also one of the most beautiful ones.
- Mirador de Gibralfaro. It is impossible to miss Gibralfaro mountain when visiting Malaga. The mountain stands right by the city and is one of my favorite hidden gems in Malaga.
- Pasaje Chinitas. Chinitas Passage is a narrow street in the heart of the Old Town of Malaga that is connected to the main square – Plaza de la Constitución.
- Poem stairs and Malaga letters. One of my favorite hidden gems in Malaga is the poem stairs. They are located next to the ancient Roman theatre near Alcazaba.
- La Concepcion – Off the Tourist Path Botanical Garden. Let me start my list of Malaga hidden gems with La Concepcion Botanical Garden in the northern part of the city.
- Peña Juan Breva Flamenco Museum & Bar. The next Malaga hidden gem is a place that will be of particular interest to those who love flamenco. It is Peña Juan Breva Flamenco Museum & Bar which is a cultural center, museum, and bar at the same time.
- Lagunillas Neighborhood – Center of Street Art in Malaga. The neighborhood of Lagunillas in Málaga is located in the center, just a short walk from the city’s historic part and main tourist attractions.
- Mercado de Salamanca. It is a fresh produce market not so much known among tourists but very well known among locals where you can experience the local culture and cuisine, and see how the market life really was in the past.
- Discover Malaga’s street art at Soho. Soho is home to incredible urban art, and there are many beautiful and colourful murals painted by local artists across this neighbourhood.
- Experience Feria de Malaga. Like every Andalusian city, Málaga has its own fair held in the middle of August every year. The fair takes place in two locations, in Málaga city centre (known as feria de día) and near Palacio de Congresos (referred to as feria de noche).
- Watch a flamenco show. If you want a taste of the culture, you cannot leave Malaga without watching a flamenco show. Flamenco originated in Andalucia about 500 years ago, and if you don’t know much about it, it consists of a traditional type of dance and music.
- Spend the day on a less-known beach. La Malagueta beach is the closest to the city centre, and this means that most tourists and locals from the area visit this beach.

With powerful walls visible from almost anywhere in the city, Málaga’s Alcazaba is a Moorish fortress palace and valuable monument from the Islamic era. It was first erected in the 8th century and was bolstered and expanded over the next five hundred years.
