  3. Dec 19, 2021 · To treat a baby’s cough, try making a saline solution to thin and loosen thick nasal mucus. To make the solution, combine 1 cup of water, half a teaspoon of salt, and half a teaspoon of baking soda.

    • Push fluids. Keeping your baby hydrated is key to keeping their mucus flowing and easy to cough up. If your baby’s dehydrated, their snot and other secretions may dry up and be difficult to clear away with coughing.

    • Suctioning Nasal Mucus. A bulb syringe can help remove mucus from your child's nose. This can prevent nasal and sinus congestion that can impair breathing and make coughing worse.
