Synopsis. Zebra Martin (Chris Rock), Lion Alex (Ben Stiller), Hippo Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Giraffe named Melman (David Schwimmer) are inmates of the NY central zoo. Alex is the star & that makes Martin jealous. The Penguins have been digging a tunnel to escape the zoo & go to their homeland in Antarctica.
Plot. In New York City, lion Alex lives in the Central Park Zoo as a star attraction known as the "King of New York", and spends time with his friends — reticulated giraffe Melman, hippopotamus Gloria and his best friend, plains zebra Marty, who has grown weary of his daily routine and desires to experience the wild.

On the way, a mutiny by rebellious penguins leads to them being swept off the deck, and washed ashore in Madagascar. They're back in the wild, all right, but without survival training.

The overall plot through the series follows the adventures of four anthropomorphic Central Park Zoo animals who have spent their lives in blissful captivity and are unexpectedly shipped back to Africa (to Madagascar initially).
The simple plot was that 4 animals raised in a zoo venture out into the wild and quickly realize how easy they had it back home in the New York Zoo. There was quite a few humorous scenes in Madagascar, but my favorite has to be the "distinguished" chimps who get offended that the thought of looking or smelling like a monkey is bad.
