Geography. Molise is bordered by Abruzzo to the north, Apulia to the east, Lazio to the west, and Campania to the south. It has 35 kilometres (22 miles) of sandy coastline to the northeast, lying on the Adriatic Sea looking out toward the Tremiti Islands.

The Molise region of Italy is situated to the south-east of the country, with the Apennine mountains to the west and the Adriatic coast to the east. It is one of the least visited regions of Italy and so retains a quiet authenticity and visitors can revel in its stunning mountain scenery and quiet villages.
Italy, Europe. Of Italy’s 20 regions, Molise probably ranks 20th in terms of name recognition. In fact, until 1970, it was part of Abruzzo, the adjacent region it closely resembles. Mountains and hills, rather than people, crowd the interior, while flatter plains guard a short 35km stretch of Adriatic coast.
The town is located in the province of Isernia, within the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise. Among the monuments, the Abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno stands out, one of Europe’s most important early medieval archaeological sites. The town overlooks a beautiful artificial lake created in the late 1950s for hydroelectric purposes.
Molise is the second smallest Italian region, after Valle D'Aosta, and expands in the south-east of the country, bordering with Campania, Apulia, Abruzzi and minimally Latium. This region was born officially only in 1963, because of the headcity Campobasso detachment from Abruzzi (at the time nominally Abruzzi e Molise).
