Get Real was filmed in and around Basingstoke from the 17th of August 1997, before moving on to the Millennium Studios in Borehamwood on the 22nd of September. (The scenes that were shot in the studio were Steven's bedroom and the inside of the public toilet). The entire movie took six weeks to shoot. Reception

Apr 30, 1999 · Steven spends his school days longing for all-star athlete John. But John has a gorgeous girlfriend, and Steven is still in the closet. Steven's sole confidant is his friend Linda. After a curious run-in with John in a public restroom, Steven starts to wonder if the jock is straight after all. When they begin a romance, it threatens to expose the truth about both of them.
Get Real is the original 90’s gay coming of age film that I’ve always wanted. It has all of the tropes. Writer twinky white gay. Fabulous, fashionable, and fat supportive gal pal. Hot closeted jock. Homophobic closeted jock friends. Dad obsessed with Dr. Who. Get Real made me audibly gasp on more than one account. This is an Asher film staple.
