He joined Savoy Brown in 1982-83, then in 1984 Mark joined Ted Nugent's band and toured with Nugent throughout the U.S. and Europe. In 1985 he joined Yngwie Malmsteen's 'Rising Force' as lead singer and in early 1986 recorded his first album with Malmsteen, “Trilogy”.
