From 2004 to 2009, the team has competed in the Formula 3 Euro Series, having drivers who would eventually race in Formula One such as Lewis Hamilton, Paul di Resta, Kazuki Nakajima and Roberto Merhi.

Before Manor Racing started in Formula One, they started out as Virgin Racing in 2010, before being taken over by Marussia in 2012. After the Marussia team folded in 2014, the team was re-established as the "Manor Marussia F1 Team" in 2015.

On 19 January 2016, the team was renamed to "Manor Racing" for the 2016 season. Their chassis is called the MRT05, and they are supplied by Mercedes engines. The team also uses Pirelli tyres.

The team signed 2015 DTM champion Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto, with Alexander Rossi and Jordan King as the team's test drivers.
