Allen Ludden. Allen Ellsworth Ludden (born Allen Packard Ellsworth; October 5, 1917 – June 9, 1981) was an American television personality, actor, singer, emcee, and game show host. He hosted various incarnations of the game show Password between 1961 and 1980.
History of Surprise. Surprise, located just 25 minutes west of downtown Phoenix along U.S. Route 60/State Highway 93, was founded in 1929 and incorporated in 1960. The name "Surprise" came from Surprise, Nebraska, hometown of the city's founder, Homer C. Ludden.

When Allen was about five years old, Leila Ellsworth married Homer Ludden Jr., an electrical engineer and the son of H.D. Ludden, the town physician, a Chicago native who had practiced in Mineral Point since 1906. Allen was given his adoptive father’s name and became Allen E. Ludden.
