Sep 12, 2012 · The Colorado Supreme Court on Monday announced its decision to uphold the actions of lower courts in former professor Ward Churchill’s lawsuit against the University of Colorado, affirming that CU is not obligated to reinstate him, nor to award back pay. Sep 10, 2012 · Churchill was awarded $1 by a jury, but the District Court judge declined to reinstate him. In 2010, the State Court of Appeals upheld the judge’s decision not to give Churchill his job back.
In a portion of the order that reads as an alternative ruling, the trial court rejected Professor Churchill’s request for an injunction ordering reinstatement. Churchill appealed. The ACLU contributed amicus briefs to Churchill's case in the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court.

Sep 10, 2012 · The court also upheld the denial of Churchill’s request to be reinstated and for front pay, concluding that reinstating Churchill to the University of Colorado would undermine its ability to enforce standards of academic integrity. CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano hailed the court’s ruling in an official statement.
