Bayezid II was the son of Mehmed II (1432–1481) and Gülbahar Hatun, an Albanian concubine. There are sources that claim that Bayezid was the son of Sittişah Hatun, due to the two women's common middle name, Mükrime. This would make Ayşe Hatun, one of Bayezid's consorts, a first cousin of Bayezid II.
