The Šubić family, also known initially as Bribirščić (Berberistich, Broborstic, Breberstic, Breberienses), [12] was one of the Twelve noble tribes of Croatia and a great noble house which constituted Croatian statehood in the Middle Ages. In the second half of the XII Centuries ago, Helena from the Šubić family married Vujna II from the old noble family Lapsanović, later Nelipić, whose property was Oštrovice Castle in present-day Turkish Croatia, built by his father Radul in 1136. Vujna died in 1179 without children and left the castle to his wife.
