Louis IX (25 April 1214 – 25 August 1270), commonly revered as Saint Louis, was King of France from 1226 until his death in 1270. He is widely recognized as the most distinguished of the Direct Capetians. Following the death of his father, Louis VIII, he was crowned in Reims at the age of 12.

Louis IX (25 April 1214 – 25 August 1270) also called Saint Louis, was King of France from 1226 to his death. He established the Parlement of Paris. After his death he was canonised (declared a saint) in 1297 by Pope Boniface VIII.
Louis was born on 25 April 1214 in Poissy, a small town outside of Paris. Despite this relatively low-key location, his parents were King Louis VIII of France and Blanche de Castille. Their marriage had been arranged by Blanche’s powerhouse grandmother, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.
