Both are conducted every five years by Statistics Canada, a department of the federal government. The larger of the two censuses, the Census of Population, gathers demographic information.
According to 2021 Census data, the Greatest Generation comprised 135,560 people, and the Interwar Generation 2,716,910. Their size fell 67.2% and 20.8%, respectively, since 2016. Generation Alpha, age 8 or younger, included 3,194,415 people in 2021. It is the only generation whose size is driven by fertility.
