Gunter's was located at Nos. 7–8 Berkeley Square. When the east side of the square was demolished in 1936–7, it moved to Curzon Street. The tea shop closed in 1956, although the catering business continued for another twenty years.
Berkeley Square, famous for the song about nightingales, which you will be hard- pressed to hear today, is one of London's largest and most pleasant garden squares, laid out in the 18th century and with some of the oldest plane trees in London.

The client wished to celebrate the key qualities and features of the existing building whilst adjusting the plans in order to compliment to their business.
In the days of the Regency Berkeley Square probably vied with Grosvenor Square in being the most fashionable spot in the West-end, and the neighbourhood of both was constantly spoken of in the last century as the very type of London wealth, taste, hospitality, and luxury.
