One would not expect too much from a film dedicated to a 50 anniversary of a country, as it is created for a governmental purpose hence predominantly doctrine. 7 letters, by using its unique perspective - focusing on little people's life, achieves far more than any grand production would do.
John Lui of My Paper rated it 4.5/5 stars and wrote that the film's quality is good enough to call for a reassessment of assumptions about government-funded art. [6] Time Out Singapore selected it as the best Singaporean film of 2015.

Aug 10, 2015 · Parting by Boo Junfeng was a deeply nostalgic piece to do with memory and loss. The film is notable for the skill with which it wove personal drama with reflections on what some viewers interpreted as a reference to Singapore’s separation from Malaysia in 1965.
