Don't expect any fireworks or explosions. "A Family Thing" is mostly a quiet, character-driven story. Do expect to be touched by the simple drama of human lives, relayed by a talented director (Richard Pierce) two insightful writers (Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson) and some very skilled actors. 10/10.
A FAMILY THING is a beautifully acted and simply told story of an older man's search for his identity. A cantankerous, racist man from Arkansas named Earl Pilchard, played by Robert Duvall, finds out he is half black, so he goes to Chicago to find his fully black half- brother, Virgil, played by James Earl Jones.
Brief Synopsis. Earl Pilcher, Jr., has lived his entire life in the same house in the same town in rural Arkansas.
