Jul 28, 2019 · Duke Adolf got the Gottorp estate and from then he and his descendants called themselves Dukes of Holstein-Gottorp. Duke Adolf's brother, Hans the Elder, died in 1580 without heirs. He had ruled Haderslev and Tønder, Femern and Rendsburg. His possessions were called the "hansborgske" part after the castle he built in Haderslev.
