    Alan Eugene Jacksonwas born on October 17, 1958 in Newnan, Georgia. He was born to Ruth Musick and Joseph Eugene Jackson. Jackson grew up singing gospel music, both in church and at home with his family. He performed his first song at church as a young boy. He started working at the age of twelve, at a local shoe store. Jackson wrote his first song in 1983 and he established a band during high school. At the age of 27, Jackson moved to Nashville to dedicate himself fully to his music career. During the early 1980s, Jackson held down a series of odd jobs such as a car salesman, construction worker, and forklift operator at K-Mart. While he was working, he was found playing the local club circuit with his band, Dixie Steel. J

    As a teenager, Jackson performed locally as part of a country duo. He left school to work and he married his high school sweetheart, Denise, who worked as an airline stewardess. He married Denise Jackson on December 15, 1979. The couple has three kids together. Their names are Alexandre Jane, who was born on August 23, 1993, Mattie Denise, born on June 19, 1990, and Dani Grace born on August 28, 1977.

    Jackson caught his big break when his wife, Denise found country music star Glen Campbell waiting for a flight and she gave him a copy of her husband's demo tape. Campbell gave her contact information for his music publishing company, and the Jacksons picked up and moved to Nashville shortly thereafter. Campbell's company suggested that Alan take a year and hone his songwriting. Jackson found a job at The Nashville Network as a staff writer. At night, he performed in Nashville clubs and recorded a demo with songwriter/producer Keith Stegall. In 1989, Jackson became the first artist signed to Arista's new country division, Arista Nashville. Jackson released his first album in 1990, titled Here in the Real World.
