Alex and Clive went on a business trip to Japan where they experienced an earth tremor. Coincidentally the joke ran on the same day as the San Francisco earthquake . It was the only mention of earthquakes in the newspaper that day (the San Francisco quake occurred at 5pm EST and so was too late to make the British papers).

Alex is a British cartoon strip by Charles Peattie and Russell Taylor. It first appeared in the short-lived London Daily News in 1987. It moved to The Independent later that year and then to The Daily Telegraph in 1992. A translated version was published in the German newspaper Financial Times Deutschland. [1]
