Amanda S. C. Gorman[1] (born March 7, 1998) [2] is an American poet, activist, and model. Her work focuses on issues of oppression, feminism, race and marginalization, as well as the African diaspora. Gorman was the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate.

Aug 22, 2024 · Amanda Gorman gained international fame when she read her poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the 2021 inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden. A poet and activist whose star has continued to rise, she is known for works that address Black identity, feminism, marginalization, and climate change.
Amanda Gorman is the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history, as well as an award-winning writer and cum laude graduate of Harvard University, where she studied Sociology. She has written for the New York Times and has three books forthcoming with Penguin Random House.
In January 2021, the 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman achieved a record: she became the youngest person ever to recite a poem at a US President’s inauguration, when Gorman read her poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the inauguration of President Joe Biden. We have analysed the poem here.
