The screenplay, by John Romano, treats the narrative in a way that suggests a willful misreading of the book. The director, Ewan McGregor, also plays the Swede, a Jewish high school athlete who falls apart in the '60s. The film has no sense of place, time or place, and a series of emotional scenes that bear almost no relation to each other.
Summaries. An All-American college star and his beauty queen wife watch their seemingly perfect life fall apart as their daughter joins the turmoil of '60s America. Seymour Levov, going by the nickname of 'Swede' in the Jewish community he was born into, was even more of an all-American than Douglas Fairbanks himself.
