Anna Mahler's life resembles a web of origins and time. Her famous father Gustav Mahler and her overbearing mother Alma influenced her sculptural work. After studying painting in Rome and Paris, she trained as a stone sculptor in Vienna. In the 1930s, her Viennese studio was a meeting place for writers, composers and painters.
