- Gargano. Gargano is a historical sub-region in Puglia’s province of Foggia. It consists of a wide mountain massif with numerous peaks and highlands, and forms the spine of the Gargano Promontory projecting into the Adriatic Sea, forming the “spur” on the Italian boot’s ankle.
- Andria. There are numerous stories explaining the history of Andria, but the earliest record of the city dates back to 915 and it obtained its city status in 1046 when it was enlarged and fortified.
- Alberobello. Trulli date from ancient times, but the oldest examples of these little buildings existing today are in and around Alberobello, and date back to the 14 century.

Apr 3, 2019 · Apulia or Puglia is a long, slender region with a vast stretch of sun-baked coastline. Apulia’s southernmost tip, the Salento peninsula, forms the heel of the Italian boot. Apulia is bordered on the northwest by Molise and its western border is with Campania and Basilicata.
- Alberobello. If, like us, you are captivated by the whitewashed trulli stone huts and their conical roofs, then you should come to the town of Alberobello.
- Lecce. Lecce is known as the ‘Florence of the South’ for good reason. Full of Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage, it is one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited.
- Ostuni. We had not heard of Ostuni before and only went there on the recommendation of other travelers we met. But we are certainly glad we took their advice to visit it.
- Castel del Monte. Enjoying an imperious position atop a hill in Andria, the Castel del Monte was both a citadel and castle. When we visited it, we were immediately struck by its unique octagonal shape.
The Apulia region (also known as Puglia) is the 'heel' of Italy - that is, the south-eastern part of the country, facing the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ionian Sea to the south. Apulia is a relatively undiscovered region despite having some lovely beaches and impressive architecture.

It became incredibly famous due to an Instagrammable restaurant in one of its towns. But save yourself a huge disappointment and a lot of money by skipping said place. 😉.
