Aryabhata is the author of several treatises on mathematics and astronomy, some of which are lost. He was student of Nalanda University, later becoming head of a department. Much of the research made at Nalanda included subjects in astronomy, mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, and other fields.

Aryabhata (born 476, possibly Ashmaka or Kusumapura, India) was an astronomer and the earliest Indian mathematician whose work and history are available to modern scholars.
