Following the cutscene with Lilith in Shadow Over Cerrigar, you’ll now be tasked with defeating Astaroth. This entire main story quest revolves around this boss fight, and will eventually lead you to the end of Act 2. Below, you can find a guide on how to beat this boss to complete Act 2 of Diablo 4.

Astaroth is a very intimidating boss right out the gate, especially given his size. Thankfully, this can be used to your advantage, as you can dodge underneath him and try to get behind him to deal damage.

Most of his attacks are dealt in front of him as well, like a swipe from his staff and the Spawn of Hatred breathing fire, but he’ll also howl to summon Werewolves to assist him and call down fireballs that you’ll need to watch out for.

When the fight starts, you’ll have several Werewolves appear alongside him to fight. As soon as they appear, though, the Spawn of Hatred will breathe fire in your direction, so you’ll first want to dodge around or underneath him to get behind him and start dealing damage. Only get a few hits in, though, as he’ll soon jump away in a different direction and if you’re not careful to move out of the way, you can be crushed by the Spawn of Hatred’s feet.

Astaroth will also take swings in front of him with his staff, which is another reason why it’s smart to get behind him during this time. In front of him will be the most dangerous spot in general, so working around him or to his sides will help tremendously. You’re not entirely safe back there, though, as he’ll eventually call down fireballs to try and hit you. Move around these by keeping an eye out for red circles on the ground and staying out of them.

Once he hits the first and second marker on his health bar (which give you healing potions), he’ll move to a new location each time. You’ll want to follow him as he moves to continue the fight, but despite this movement, his attack patterns will remain the same (though dealt with a bit more frequency than before) so you can continue fighting him with the methods used earlier.

Once he’s down, Donan will run over to try and free Yorin from Astaroth’s control. Unfortunately, it won’t work. For now, you’ll need to leave Donan to grieve, so head for the gate to speak with the guard. Finishing this conversation will complete this quest and Act 2.
