Sukowa, a renowned German actress, has received numerous awards for her film and stage work, including Best Actress accolades at Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and Montreal Film Festival. Her breakthrough in cinema came with her portrayal of Mieze in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1980 film “Berlin Alexanderplatz,” which earned her the Best Young Actress Award in Germany.

Striking, versatile stage actress whose relatively few screen appearances have yielded several memorable performances. Sukowa played the title character of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Lola" (1982), for which she was named Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival, and had leading roles in Margarethe von Trotta's "Marianne and Julianne" (1982) and "Rosa Luxemburg" (1985).
