    Historically, most of Silesia was German speaking until 1945. Today, the vast majority of the region is Polish speaking with accompanying smaller regions speaking either Czech or German. There is a small German minority to be found in Upper Silesia. Upper Silesia is also home to a separate Slavic language/dialect, also called Silesian. Finding someone speaking English won't be any problem in bigger city.

    LGBT visitors

    Silesia's rather tolerant to LGBT people. Cities of Katowice, Opole, Wrocław or Częstochowa host year-round pride marches (marsz równości). They occur in June(Opole), September (Katowice) and October (Wrocław). Katowice and Wrocław have moderate gay scene. Showing affection in public won't catch anyone's sight in popular tourist places or big cities' center but stay discrete while visiting less popular places or side districts. It's not reccomendable to visit big apartment districts after dus...

    Villages and tourist places are in general safe. Some districts , especially big apartment houses ones, can be somehow dangerous. It's not reccomended to visit them alone, especially after dusk.

    Silesia region has a good train and bus connections between Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic or Hungary. Katowice and Wrocław airports have a low cost airlines connectios between Ukrainian and Croatian destinations, as well as Georgian Kutaisi and Podgorica, Montenegro.
