Set against the background of the Battle of Waterloo, Becky Sharp is the story of Vanity Fair by Thackeray. Becky and Amelia are girls at school together, but Becky is from a "show biz" family, or in other words, very low class. Sadly, this DVD release has not been minted from the restored print many of us would have wanted to see. Curious, since the recent version of Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" would make such a release fortuitous.

Becky Sharp released in 1935 and based on the play of the same name by Langdon Mitchell, which in turn is based on the William Makepeace Thackeray's novel "Vanity Fair". It tells the story of a lower-class girl who insinuates herself into an upper class family, only to see her life and the lives of those around her destroyed.
