    "The President's Double" is the third episode of the first season of the ABC sitcom, Benson, and third episode of the series overall.

    The episode was directed by Jay Sandrich and originally aired on September 27th, 1979.

    When assassins muff an attempt on African President Ocassi's life, Benson is drafted as his double.

    Meanwhile, a forth assassin comes looking for President Ocassi, causing the security to try their hardest at preventing a potential assassination of Benson.

    •Robert Guillaume once stated that this was his favorite episode.

    •Caldwell was played by Wendell Wright. Wendell would later play Frank Hopkins in the Season 2 episodes, "Big Buddy" and "Easy Kid Stuff". He also previously made an appearance on Season 2 of the parent series, Soap.

    •This episode features the clip of Benson turning that would later be used for the opening sequence and title card of the series from Season 2 and onward.

    •The Governor implies that his mother was still alive at the time of this episode.

    •The Governor states that he met Eleanor Roosevelt in the same year that Count Fleet won the derby; that year being 1943.
