Big Helium Dog is one of the funniest movies I've seen in the past few years. The simple story, about a guy who is trying to reconcile his feelings after the death of his best friend, is encased in a series of related, and unrelated tangents. The structure was described by the director, Bryan Lynch, as reminiscent of an episode of Sesame Street.

She was in the Broken Lizard films Super Troopers and Beerfest, as well as Big Helium Dog and several independent films. Ryan's most notable film role was in the 2003 film Open Water, for which she won the 2004 Saturn Award for Best Actress. Despite the film's success, she made only one film in the next five years .
