Early life. Bradshaw was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1948. His father, William Marvin "Bill" Bradshaw (1927–2014), a native of Sparta, Tennessee, was a veteran of the United States Navy, a former vice president of manufacturing of the Riley Beaird Company in Shreveport, and a Southern Baptist layman.

- A Super Bowl-winning play-caller. Bradshaw called the Steelers' plays throughout his Hall of Fame career, which made him Pittsburgh's pseudo offensive coordinator during their four Super Bowl wins.
- Playoff legend. Bradshaw's 73.7% playoff winning percentage is second all-time among quarterbacks with more than 10 career playoff starts. Not surprisingly, only Tom Brady boasts a higher playoff winning percentage.
- Only two-time, back-to-back champion. Bradshaw is the only starting quarterback to win back-to-back Super Bowls twice. He was the first quarterback to win three and four Super Bowls and was the first two-time Super Bowl MVP.
- Steelers only MVP. Bradshaw is the only member of the Steelers to win NFL MVP. He won the award in 1978 after he and the Steelers took full advantage of the NFL's newly implemented rules that encouraged the forward pass.
Bradshaw, who was born September 2, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, had a powerful throwing arm and called his own plays throughout his pro career. His physical skills and on-the-field leadership played a major role in every one of Pittsburgh's championship seasons.
