Ca’ d’Oro is one of the most spectacular palaces in Venice. It has a breath-taking façade with remarkable external decoration and sits on the banks of the Grand Canal. The palazzo was built mid-fifteenth century in a mix of Gothic and Renaissance style.

Absolute masterpiece and heart of the collection is the painting “ San Sebastiano ” by Andrea Mantegna, for which the Baron Franchetti made build a chapel adorned by marbles, at whose centre there is an altar where is preserved the painting, one of the most dramatic works of the artist.
Ca'd'Oro is one of the most famous architectural monuments of the Venetian Gothic period, built up from 1421, commissioned by Marino Contarini, member of a very powerful patrician family. The architects are Matteo Raverti, Giovanno Bon, and his son Bartolomeo Bon.
